I usually capture footage from my Sony HD Camera into the latest version of Final Cut Pro, but this time I decided to use a DVX100B, while still using Sony HD tapes. When I tried uploading the footage, it did not recognize the camera or the firewire cable, even when I changed all the presets to match those of the DVX. So, from there, I tried uploading from a tape deck. It worked! I didn’t even have to change any presets. I captured about 2 tapes. A few days later, I went in for the third tape, and it gave me the same problem as before. It did not recognize any communication between the device and FCP. When I attempt to capture, it gives me an air message, saying I have not selected any device. So, I changed my device-control preset to ‘Non-Controllable’ device’. The air message did not pop up again. But there was still no communication and it told me I had no device selected once I clicked ‘Capture Now’. What should I do?

Trash preferences, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior on the system disk. First things to do when FCP acts up. You didn’t mention your system setup (always a good thing to do). What kind of computer, I/O card or box, scratch drive, how is it connected, how you monitor, etc.?
