All I can suggest is basic troubleshooting, duplicate your time line and then cut each time line in half. If one half consolidates fine and the other doesn’t, then you can start isolating the problem. I had to do this on a recent DVCpro 50 project in 5.1.4. The problem boilled down to one funky nested file in the time line. (Yes I told the editors not to nest, but they don’t always listen) I ended up cutting the sequence into smaller and smaller pieces until I could isolate the one shot that was bad.

Hi Greg
What codec are you working in? As a test I put a 2700 X 1800 jpg still in a motion project, added a layer of text and rendered it out as DVCPro HD 720. There was a move on both the still and the text layer. A 240 frame clip took 1:32 to export out as a QT movie. Then I imported the motion file into FCP and rendered it there. It only took 1:10 to render inside FCP.

Check that you have the right deck control active. Older decks don’t like having more than 2 active audio channels. Go into the device control presets, open the rs422 setting you are using and make sure you have audio mapping set to 2 channels.
If that doesn’t work, try trashing the preferences. I’ve seen that fix deck control issues in the past.

One last thing to try, reset the deck back to factory presets. (I’m not near the office, so I can’t walk you through it) That’s worked for me in the past.
If that doesn’t work, the deck is probably fried. I just had one of mine done through Vidcom. It cost me about $500 bucks to have it fixed including an overall cleanup and service.

Hi Wally
I wouldn’t get an Xserve raid if you just wanted something for local storage. They’re great in an Xsan shared environmnet, but if all you need to do to is connect one CPU, take a look at a SATA raid system from someone like Caldigit. Any of the SATA raid systems out there can handle DVCPro HD. For uncompressed HD, you’ll need a system with at least 8 to 10 drives.Cheers
