We just saw this for the first time today on rendered files. We just recently updated to 5.1.4. Re-rendering got rid of the problem.
In 5 years on FCP I’ve never seen this particular type of corruption. We’re running FCP 5.1.4 on OS 10.4.8 rendering everything to Xsan

I do the same thing, create a long photoshop document. But I animate it in After Effects with motion blur and field rendering turned on. This will give you a lot more choices of speeds you can use.

The PVW 2800 has better frequency response than the UVW 1800 as well as a jog knob and insert and assemble controls on the deck. For graphics, that little extra bandwidth can help preserve details. But as Bob pointed out, all these decks are discontinued. The best deck for you might be the one you can get the best deal on.

Makes sense if you do the math, 50i requires a lower data rate than 60i so they could increase the frame size of 50i and still stay with in the 100 megabit data rate.

You’ve got the output and the inputs connected to the deck at the same time. Disconnect the video input to the card while outputting to tape and the problem should go away.

I’ve seen this as well with some consumer level DV imported into a DV 50 timeline using a Kona LHe. As it was an offline edit and there were only a few shots in the timeline from that source, a quick broadcast safe filter took care of the problem.

However, for final mastering it’s important to look at the offending clips on a scope and use colour correction filters to bring the levels down, don’t just rely on the broadcast safe filter.

Anybody here actually using Proximity’s software. I saw it NAB briefly, but choked on the price. I can’t remember exactly what Artbox was selling for, but it made me quietly step away from the booth.

If you come from an Avid background, then mixdown sounds like the wrong thing to do, because it replaces all your audio tracks with a mixed down stereo pair. But in FCP all it does is create a temp audio file for playback. Try it, it usually gets rid of 90 percent of dropped frame issues, especially if you know your storage speed isn’t an issue.

Set your FCP audio video setting to Kona 1080, then let the kona card handle the down convert. You’re asking the system to down convert in two different places.
