Got the 17″ a few months ago and have edited on location a couple of times with it. Matte screen, only because I thought the glossy might show fingerprints more quickly. Only negative is the trackpad is larger and I tend to brush it with the edge of my hand when I’m typing. I know there’s a feature to “ignore accidental trackpad input” but then there’s a delay when you stop typing and try to use the trackpad, it takes a second or two to “wake up” before it recongnizes input. I never had this problem on my 15″. Works pretty well for editing compressed though.

For online training I like lynda.com. They have some really thorough FCP training videos there, although I haven’t watched any of the new FCS2 titles yet.

Yes, it should be the same, but I’ve had the same problem as Chris.

Timewarping in Final Cut Pro is pretty easy to use but the results are hit or miss depending on the source footage. Twixtor is the gold standard but is a pretty pricey plugin.

I read a lot of forums and have never heard anyone say Blackmagic has a quality advantage, so I guess I just missed those posts. I might expect to hear it on the Blackmagic forum but I don’t have any reason to follow that one. If you can point us to any specific threads I’d be interested to read them.

Sounds like you should stick with PC. I’m on Mac and dealing with AVIs from Premiere on PC means lots of conversion time, or recapturing. It’ll be the same way if you have to interface with clients who are on PC and you’ve gone over to Mac.

I can confirm the same audio problems here, and as Bob Zelin suggests only in 720 DVCProHD. Addressed this once with AJA and thought we had it fixed but apparently not.

I’ve always thought someone should make a plugin that combines glow and blur as a transition and call it “glur.”

We just used Syntheyes on a project and it did an amazing job. Tracking marks left the frame and still it managed to figure out how to match position with the shot because of all its other reference points. Much better than 2D tracking. Are you shooting the wall or creating it in AE as well?
