I am a PC user, but I am thinking about switching to a Mac. I have two issues that are holding me back and I need some advice.

    1. I am planning on buying Adobe CS3 Production bundle, but the Mac version doesn’t include Ultra or On Location and I want both of those programs.

    2. The company I contract out for works on PCs. They work on Adobe CS3 for the PC. They give me hard drives full of avi files and I edit their videos and then send the hardd rives back with the project so they can review it before I make the final product. Will I have to convert all the files to QT every time they give me a drive? Will they have to convert my files back to avi files if I switch to a Mac? Will it be more of a headache than it’s worth if my primary client uses PCs?

    Help!

I thought about switching to Mac when it was announced that CS3 would be Mac and Windows. After doing a lot of thinking, talking to people, and shopping, I stuck with Windows.

My reason for thinking about switching was so that I could work more with clients that used FCP (and have a system with both). But I soon realized 2 things: 1) My FCP clients didn’t really care what I edited on – they’re more concerned with what the finished product looked like. And 2) my entire workflow, all my stock footage assests, my media drives,plug-ins, everything was Windows based…to switch would be a huge hassle….

So I bought an HP 8400 workstation with dual Quad-cores instead of the Mac dual Quad core, and I am loving it. I’m soooo glad I bought what I did. Now, my reasons may not hold true for you, but I hope they help you decide like so many people’s input helped me.

Sounds like you should stick with PC. I’m on Mac and dealing with AVIs from Premiere on PC means lots of conversion time, or recapturing. It’ll be the same way if you have to interface with clients who are on PC and you’ve gone over to Mac.
