How did you perform the “upgrade”… as an erase and install or just clicked “upgrade”? If the latter, you probably have a problem with the install itself… Best to do a clean install on a new drive, or newly formatted drive… erase and install will accomplish this with your Tiger disk… Archive and Install is better than “upgrading” too.

Yeah, look in your scratch disk settings for wherer your “Thumbnails” are being saved… trash this cache file, and it will rebuild.

If you control click on any clip or set of clips, you can choose “make offline” from the contextual menu that shows up… then trash them that way. Also there is a “render manager’ available in the Tools menu, to delete renders from a specific project file’s sequences. That way you get it all…

I don’t think there’s a problem with the Kona 2 and Shake playing nice at all… should be an external video output setting in Shake to allow you to select the K2 as the device… should be plug and play I’d think…

Most of the sequence settings in FCP are YUV not RGB, so when you send clips to AE you are converting the color space to RGB. This is probably why you are seeing a shift…

Look on the installation disks… probably in an extras folder or something there?

July 11, 2005 at 2:03 pm in reply to: HDV slow rendering

I’m not working much with HDV, but it doesn’t much surprise me that it’s slowish… I suspect that if you used the intermediate codec instead of HDV “native” codec, things would improve…

Reason “native” HDV is slow is because it’s not an I frame codec, meaning it’s calculating some of the frames: the ones that are only recording the difference between true I frames. Where the intermediate codec is ALL I frames, much like DV or uncompressed video is… less to calculate… Theory states that there would be a signal loss doing this (compressing to the intermediate codec) but I have a feeling that if you try it, you might not actually see a lot of difference. Dunno, again not really using HDV much.

Which OS are you running in, and was it the original install on the Mac or was there an upgrade done from Panther to Tiger or?
