Take a look at HDVxDV here: https://www.hdvxdv.com/ But you also might try using Compressor’s new advanced format conversions first. But you are going to do this to each clip right? Otherwise you’ll be spending a lot of time finding cuts in a single QT movie of the whole piece to change the CC from shot to shot if need be I’d think.

I’m almost positive that the last version any G3 could run was FCP 3.

Was the Boris FX software installed for FCP or Avid? might be the problem…
Try trashing your FCP prefs and see if that helps.
I’d not run an Avid system on the same system as FCP in any event… it’s holding you back softtware wise for one thing. i.e. you should be running 10.4.3 and QT 7.03 on FCP 5.0.3 for the best version of FCP 5 right now.

Your client wont’ be able to just open a 5 project file in 4.5… There are work arounds, but they are cumbersome (exporting an XML file which he imports and reconnects.. It would MUCH better if he upgraded too.

I’m not sure you can add it to the sequence’s mulitclip after the fact as it were (but admit I’ve never tried it) if it just can’t be done, I’d think you should revert to the old method here… i.e. just sync the new angle in the currently cut sequence and use it where you need to…

Yeah, with 8 disks you should be runnning pretty fast, and I agree that the external solution is a ton better… but the internal solution above only involves 4 drives (lots slower no doubt)…

https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=8&postid=873599 leads to a used SCSI array which would be about TWICE as fast as the SATA array you are looking at. It will achieve 300 MB/Sec where the SATA will probably run at about 160 MB/sec or so.

It’s a kit that allows you to add more SATA’s … probably just fast enough for HD if stripe them *one stream only* all and fill it to the gills, but that price doesn’t include the drives… so add another 2000 or so for that… I’d look elsewhere because I really don’t think that the cooling system in your Mac is up to it… I hear that internal systems work OK, but there sure are a lot of drives cranking inside there with this creating a LOT of heat, and it will in no way be the fastest solution for HD… Huge System’s 4 gig Fibre channel arrays would simply blow the doors off this solution for example… But cost a more. (ya get what ya pay for here).
