  • Adding an angle to an EDITED multiclip sequence.

Does anyone know how to add a new angle to a multiclip that has aready had switch points(angle changes) placed into it?

I had to proceed on a project without all of the angles being available and would now like to insert the new angle into the multiclip in the sequence.

I know how to add it to the original multiclip, but not the one in the sequence that has already had angle switches made. The project is 2 hours long so starting from scratch would be major hassle. Is there maybe some end-around trick like taking the angles switches from the current sequence and applying them to a new sequence that has a new multiclip with all of the angles?

Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure you can add it to the sequence’s mulitclip after the fact as it were (but admit I’ve never tried it) if it just can’t be done, I’d think you should revert to the old method here… i.e. just sync the new angle in the currently cut sequence and use it where you need to…

How about creating a new multicam clip with the angles you need, open it in the viewer and then replacing the clip you want with the new angle clip. Let me know if this works.

Well, I think I have it figured out. Hopefully I am not affecting the sequence in unseen ways by doing this.

Basically, I selected all in the timeline and then dragged the new angle into the viewer, selecting “Insert new angle affiliates.”

It seems to have worked and I can now add the new angle shere I want.

Jbrad, I didn’t fully follow what you meant. I understand crreating a new multiclip, but how would I be able to keep all of my previous edits from the timeline?

I ws originally looking for something akin to After Effects where you can replace the media file but keep all of your keyframes, effects, etc. I didn’t really see anything like that in FCP unless I am missing a hotkey somewhere. I’ve only been on FCP for a few months coming off of years on Media 100, so that is entirely possible.

Thanks guys for the help. It’s greatly appreciated. These forums are such a good source of information.

Basically, I selected all in the timeline and then dragged the new angle into the viewer, selecting “Insert new angle affiliates.”

They added this super essential feature in the 5.0.2 update.

The following is from the “What’s New” PDF:
    https://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Final_Cut_Pro_5.0_lbn_z.pdf

When you insert or overwrite an angle in a multiclip in Final Cut Pro 5.0, only the
current multiclip is affected. In Final Cut Pro 5.0.2, you now have the option to insert an
angle into all multiclips affiliated with the one you are currently inserting into. This
option makes it easy to insert a new multiclip angle into many multiclips at once. This
can be useful if you already have an edited multiclip sequence created by switching
and cutting, and you want to add a new angle to all of the multiclips in that sequence.
Note: For more information about inserting and overwriting multiclip angles, see the
Final Cut Pro 5 User Manual,Volume II, page 271.
For example, suppose you have a sequence that contains a multiclip that has three
angles (camera A, B, and C), and you have performed several real-time cuts between
the angles. Each time you cut to a new multiclip angle in the Timeline, a new affiliated
instance of the multiclip is created. The Insert New Angle Affiliates option allows you to
easily add a fourth angle (for example, from camera D) to all of the affiliated multiclips
    in the Timeline at once.

I think there needs to be another feature that would let you re-sync angles within all affiliated multiclips.

Check out “reconnect media” it’s kind of like “replace footage” in AE

Do all your clips have matched timecode?

Of course not. That would be too easy, wouldn’t it.

Thanks for the help on that. Although, page Vol. 2 p. 271 is not as detailed as that paragraph suggests in that it is a bout the most basic thing ever.

The 5.0.2 update pdf clears some of it up, though. Strangely, out of the 12 multiclip sequences I have to work with, only 8 of them worked properly. The other 4 had the new angle off sync, even though they were synced up properly. I even brought the new angle into the individual multiclip sequences and synced them up there prior to attempting to add them to the multiclip itself.

    Live and learn. Thanks again.
