If you capture the analog out from the HDV and transcode it with the Multibridge to uncompressed HD, you won’t need Lumiere, because you’re not trying to work with the MPEG file that was originally shot. But transcoding isn’t going to improve the picture in any event if that’s the reason you think you need to do this. You’ll also need a very fast disk array to capture and playback uncompressed HD, as well as a ton of storage space. Figure in the area of 4 gigs per minute stored on an array that can maintain 180mb/sec or more.
LumiereHD will be needed if you want to stay native HDV.

What is the source of the footage? DV? or?

Deinterlacing won’t fix the stutter you see, shooting 24fps caused that most likely. Deinterlacing will simply throw half of the resolution away, and retain the stutter.
Post more about your system. Mac? OS? version of FCP and QuickTime? What are you using as a scratch disk? A disk array? Also post what codec shows up when you select the QT movie, and type cmd+9 to get it’s properites.

The best fix is to reinstall everything from the ground up. i.e. the OS and FCP. There are no “third party filters” other than AU filters which the software shouldn’t be looking for in a normal boot up if they are third party… Plus if you reinstall everything from the ground up, you’ll have a very stable system.

Import the stills into FCP after you set the still frame duration to 1 frame in the FCP user preferences. Then edit them in a sequence by dragging them all to one. Render…

You’ll like the speed of DVCPROHD over HDV in a hearbeat in post. Plus they come in already captured to the bay. It’s 4:2:2 colorspace where HDV isn’t.
Let’s see… No one I know in the broadcast world does anything with it but bump it to another format for post or air… It’s inherently infirior to i frame formats.Only thing I can think of negative over HDV is that DVCPROHD creates much larger files. 4 times the size or so. It’s just that you’ll not like posting HDV. More RT in DVCPROHD right now for sure and it renders 8 times faster or so than HDV.

I think the JVC makes pretty pictures, but wouldn’t want to be working in HDV at all. The rendering times (conforming) are a big time killer in post.
Sure would be a better workflow to be shooing P2 Shawn… Costs more up front, but will save SOOOOO much time in post it’s a push in my mind.

Sounds like your sequence settings don’t match the properites of the source material.
i.e. what format are you working with? If DV, then the sequence settings should also be DV. That way you shouldn’t have to render just to play back unless you’ve added filters or effects that require it.
You can also use “unlimited” as an RT setting set from the Timeline window’s RT button in the upper left side of the Timeline Window which opens up more real time playback of unrendered effects.
