What codec did you transcode to? What were your settings in MPEG streamclip? I haven’t had this problem with MPEG Stream clip, it’s always worked for me. What were your exact steps? Did you drag the movies to your harddrive before encoding?

Well, kinda.

Here’s what I would do. first, where’s the destination audience…PAL or NTSC land? WHere do you live, PAL or NTSC land?

I’d capture and edit in PAL then at the end, transfer to NTSC, rather than transcode your entire source footage to NTSC. If you are going to do that, I’d just convert the 50i HDV tapes to DVCPRo HD 720p60.

Also, you won’t have to render an 8 bit SD timeline as the Kona 2 will downconvert for you on the fly.

You have to click to check box that says “apply to enclosed items”. Also, make sure that your destination hard drive as all read/write permissions enabled. If this doesn’t work, and you can afford to lose all the material on the destination drive, reformat it.

You could transfer the dvds to dv and then import the dv footage through any dv deck/camera.

You could use mpeg streamclip to convert them in software to quicktime.

Some options:

Export a reference movie (not self contained), import that clip into a new timeline and convert from there.

Or

Duplicate your timeline and work from the duplicated timeline. Put the standards converter filter on one clip, set it up to the specs you want and select only that clip and hit copy (apple-c). Select the rest of the clips in your timeline and hit option-v (paste attributes) then select filters, then the standards conversion filter is now on all clips. Of course, this will not work if you have nay other filters on that first clip as it will paste that filter on the rest of your clips as well. the way around that is to simply remove the first filter, do the above workflow, and then place the filter back. or, you can set up the standards conversion filter,. make it a favorite, select all of the clips in the timeline and drag the filter to your timeline to place it on all clips.

Not familiar with the deck, but is there a way to change the deck control from firewire to rs-422? (i am talking on the deck, not FCP)

Wait, i just thought of something. Are you looking at these clips in Quicktime? If so, quicktime will show that each movie starts at 0:00.0. You need to look at these clips through FCP in the viewer window. Above the image in the viewer window will be two sets of what looks like timecode. The one on the right will be the correct timecode.

Another way to check is to put a clip in the timeline and turn on the timecode overlays to see what the timecode really is, or drop a tc reader filter on it and then tell us what the timecode says.

You aren’t capturing in FCP Express are you?

🙂 Do you have an Aurura, Decklink, AJA Kona? Any of those sound familiar? Look in the back of your machinetowards the top where the PCI slots are. On the bottom you should see two cables coming out that go to your computer monitors. Are there any cards above that with a bunch of hoses/cables coming out of it?
