    Hello,

Sorry for the new post, I was trying to convert mpg2 to quicktime using both Mpegstreamclip and DVDxDV (thanks again to JeremyG and Wayne K for the links)

I have a total of 4 mini dvds. The first one converted by MpegSteamClip worked perfectly. The other 3 are completely out of sync and sometimes it just semms to skip some video frames. I am using the same codec and settings. The original footage plays perfectly on the dvd.

Any ideas on how to fix this? or suggested settings that I should try?

Otherwise I will just go with Trevor Ward’s solution and try to hook up the dvd to the camera. But I really wanted to get the conversion working. Any help is much appreciated.

    thanks

What codec did you transcode to? What were your settings in MPEG streamclip? I haven’t had this problem with MPEG Stream clip, it’s always worked for me. What were your exact steps? Did you drag the movies to your harddrive before encoding?

    Hello Jeremy,

Thanks again for the fast response..

I copied the video_ts folder to my desktop, opened vts_01.vob on MpegStream and selected all files. then it complained about time code breaks, I clicked fix timecode breaks and clicked export as quicktime.

I tried exporting at the defaul settings with Motion Jpeg A and also no luck. Same problem. The first time I did it (which worked only on the first disk) I used the following export settings:

    Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
    Quality 50%

Sound uncompressed, stereo, auto(also tried using 48k)

    720×480 (DV-NTSC), lower field first

    here is the stream info:

    Stream Info:
    Stream: VTS_01_1.VOB
    Type: VOB program stream

    Duration: 0:24:52
    Data Size: 1.05GB
    Bit rate 6.07 Mbps

    Video tracks:
    224 Mpeg-2, 704 x 480, 4:3, 29.97fps, 9.30Mbps, upper field first

    Audio tracks:
    128 AC3 2/0, 48 kHz , 256 kbps

    Stream files:
    VTS_01_1.VOB(1023.97MB)
    VTS_01_2.VOB(55.81MB)

I wonder why it would only work with one of the discs if they all play perfectly on the dvd player.
Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks again for your help

Hmm, curious. When you say you selected all files, what do you mean? you can only load one movie at a time in MPEG Streamclip. You can then send it out to batch though for batch processing by opening the batch window and choosing “send to batch”

the timecode breaks thing is normal. That can happen and I haven’t had a problem with that either.

you should turn your quality up to 100% on the dv footage and definitely use 48k audio.

When I select the vts_01_1.vob the program gives me this message:

    ===========================================================================
“Would you like to open all the files of the stream togheter? It seems the stream has more files then the selected one. Choose if you want to open all the files or just one file.”

(Cancel) (Open 1 file) (Open All Files)
    ===========================================================================

I clicked open all files on the first time and it worked perfectly.. I will try changing the quality up to 100% and force the audio to 48k… Please let me know if you think of anything else..

thanks a lot for all the help

That won’t mess with sync. I would try the open 1 file and see what happens there.

just got back home.. I already tried the “open 1 file” and had the same problem…gonna test a couple more codecs but I am pretty sure it wont work.. I just cant get over the fact that it only worked for 1 disc..

either way thanks a lot for your help and if I ever find out how to fix it I will get back to you.

    kind regards
