Check those two places on your timeline and see if there’s a blue render bar there when there shouldn’t be and then check this thread to fix the problem:

The person that start this thread was talking about phantom video, but I’ve had it happen with audio as well (due to the phantom video). This should fix the problem if it keeps happening in the same place everytime.

Killer Tracks has a collection offshoot called Atmosphere that’s pretty hip. Most of it, from what I can gather, is produced in the UK giving it a pretty fresh sound. I guess it depends on what kind of work you do.

Okay, do you have a capture card that you can bring in this material over component and rs-422? Where did the source tape come from? What camera or deck? Check your settings on your decks and make sure that you can read both VITC and LTC.

I understand, but most consumer dv cameras (not dv cam cameras) don’t have the option of drop vs non drop. I was just informing Melissa that dv is inherently a drop frame format. DV Cam is selectable, which as you and I both said, depends on who set it up.

DV tends to be drop frame (that’s why the FCP DV NTSC setup reverts to drop frame). DV Cam is selectable, it depends on the shooter.

What kind of deck(s) are you capturing from?

Well, you now have another choice to make. You can get the io la to digitize your SD analog footage (beta SP or whatever) and then you can get a dv deck with SDI to feed the Kona 2 for the upconvert (the most expensive option)….or……you can get the full blown io and feed it analog component video and analog audio which will then embed those signals to SDI which you then feed to your Kona 2 for upconvert. I do the exact opposite all of the time (through the Kona 2 and io). I routinely feed SDI to the io for analog downconverts to Beta SP. it works really well and it’s a self contained box instead of a bunch of different boxes.

AJA also makes separate video and audio d/a’s which work really well, but it’s more cables and hassle. The io is the most elegant way. You’ll pay a little more for the full blown io, but all of your analog to digital to analog conversion is then built in. You will be happy with the purchase if you really intend to use it this way.

No, no. No river jumping needed unless you prefer the thrill.

I think what you are getting at here Francios, is that you can lay off an HDV or DVCPro HD project out of the Kona to HD tape through the HD-SDI and you can also downconvert the HDV or DVCPro HD out of regular SDI to digibeta in hardware and in real time (no software conversion). IT won’t be at 10-bit quality unless you digitize in 10 bit quality. You’ll need some sort of d/a converter if digitizing some forms of HDV. DVCPro HD is a compressed 8 Bit format. If you want to use 10 bit for grading and effects, you’ll need to digitize all of your footage in 10 bit and output to HD or SD. The Kona 2 can help you do all of these things. It does NOT magically convert your HDV footage into 10 bit uncompressed.

Well, you have a choice to make. If you go the Kona 2 route then yes, you will need some sort of da or an io for your analog captures. You can also get the Kona LH which has SD/HD analog/digital input/output. The real difference for you is that the Kona LH will not upconvert like the Kona 2 will. So, if you have an HD project that requires digitizing some SD footage, then you need the Kona 2 and some sort of DA to get you from analog component video and audio to SDI (a full io comes to mind). Since you aren’t working that much in HD I would consider the LH as it does what you need it to do right now. You can always send out SD tapes for upconversion if need be.

No need to go to another format as you will lose a round of compression going to the other format. Export a reference movie (i.e. NOT self contained) to compressor and compress your MPEG-2s from there, using the original media.

Motion si worth a look too (if you have studio). Their B SPlines work okay.

After Effects would be good too as Andy says.
