If you right click on the clip (or drag it to the ‘new’ icon at the bottom of the project window, Premiere Pro will create a sequence based on the clips settings.

If my end output was SD, I’d go PAL anamorphic, if it was 720, well, then I’d do 720p50

Hard to believe; Premiere Pro the colors don’t mean the same thing.

Green: This segment has a rendered preview file that is associated with it. Playback will use the rendered preview file. Playback is at full quality is certain to be in real time (as long as your drives are fast enough).

Yellow; This segment doesn’t have a rendered preview file associated with it. Each frame will be dynamically rendered just before the playhead reaches it. Playback at full quality will probably be in real time (but it might not be). These effects sections are typically being handled by the CUDA enabled graphics card

Red: segment doesn’t have a rendered preview file associated with it. Each frame will be dynamically rendered just before the playhead reaches it. Playback at full quality will probably NOT be in real time (but it might be).

You know Premiere Pro lets you import a project, yes? You could build a ‘common’ project and import it into every new project that has that lower third.

Or you could take the existing project and import it into a project you want that lower third in.

Let me know if that makes sense.

On drive speed.
That’s why I suggested the AJA utility. You were guessing before. Now you know. So, your internal is significantly faster than your firewire or your USB, and your USB is the slowest of the three.

Drive speed is dictated by, well mostly, drive speed. 10,000 RPM drives go faster than 5400. Somewhere in there will be elements like interace (the internal sata connection is faster than firewire…) and another element will be other items on the bus. Try removing all USB devices (if you can) and re-running the test. $247 sounds cheap for a performance 2tb drive.

Raids are a WHOLE ‘nother story.

Meanwhile, on FCP’s System Preferences and media management in general:

1) I like to have a folder at the top level of my drives called “Final Cut Pro Documents”. Why? Because that’s what Apple does by default in your user.
2) I don’t ever change the autosave or the caches – they don’t have tick boxes, and these files are mostly small and temporary.
3) I have several entries in the system prefs (one for each drive) but I only have one checked at any given moment (controlling where my media goes). If you have more than one checked, media goes to the drive with the most room first.

Know that if you point FCP to a folder like this, three folders will be created – Capture Scratch, Renders and Audio renders.
Inside of that folder is a folder based on the name of the project (never change the name of the project!)

Run the Avid uninstaller. For everything. Make sure there’s no trace of their software. Then try reinstalling 5.0.3

it’s in the part of the video that never gets seen on a TV set/DVD – it’s called blanking. It has to do with the way the signal is encoded.

If you add a small mask or crop you can remove the dead lines.
