from FCP to PREMIERE – Editing Mode????
Hello dear COW forum,
my first post here in the forum. Hello everybody! It is a long time ago since I first got here on that site. It helped me a lot through the years, I could find a lot of answers. And I never said thx for all the good work!

Now the prelude: I am editing for about 4 years on FCP systems. Since Premiere got better and better and the Dynamic Link thing is working perfectly, I decided to try editing some projects in Premiere. But there are some technical questions that came up. Please help.
The main topic of this question is the sequence format.
In FCP you can drag and drop, click yes… and there u have you’re settings. The basic thing that drives me crazy about the premiere sequence setup is the Editing Mode. I am comparing it to FCP. Inside FCP you have the Compressor – setting (mostly we are using ProRes, DVCPRO and FotoJpg in PAL, 1024×576, 720p and sometimes 1080p/i). My machine has a Decklink HD Extreme 3 and a monitor to check the fields.
The main question: which editing mode should I choose as a basic template (let’s say for anamorph PAL, 1024×576 and 720p in ProRes)?
It works somehow, but I want to find the ideal settings. And there is still this red or yellow bar, that indicates rendering. In FCP, when your settings are optimal, there is no bar.
I tried the Blackmagic Uncompressed, but it is playing no sound and is not outputting to external monitor. I also tried Quicktime DV Pal, but is DV what the codec I want? Or DSLR … I’m simply not sure…
Can someone give me a tip or ask me the right question to get to a solution?

If you right click on the clip (or drag it to the ‘new’ icon at the bottom of the project window, Premiere Pro will create a sequence based on the clips settings.

Hard to believe; Premiere Pro the colors don’t mean the same thing.Green: This segment has a rendered preview file that is associated with it. Playback will use the rendered preview file. Playback is at full quality is certain to be in real time (as long as your drives are fast enough).
Yellow; This segment doesn’t have a rendered preview file associated with it. Each frame will be dynamically rendered just before the playhead reaches it. Playback at full quality will probably be in real time (but it might not be). These effects sections are typically being handled by the CUDA enabled graphics card

So if I understand it correctly, Premiere does not have any issues about a special Compressor (like FCP has) that is supporting espacially that one type of Codec.
These different types of sequence presets are only about frame rate, size and aspect ratio. So for premiere, if the codec is installed, it can play it back – with whatever codec. Right?
On the hardware side: where does the Blackmagic card come into play? Does it support every sequence?
As I mentioned, when I switch to editing mode BlackMagic uncompressed, there is no sound playback, because it assumes that the audio is coming directly from the card. Instead the audio is coming from the standard Line – In… How and when is it good the use these Blackmagic Presets?
