One quick technique I use a lot is drwing multiple circular masks on a solid – some big some small some tiny and then animating and offsetting the mask expansion property. It’s a very effective and quick ‘splat-on’ type of effect.

    Hope that helps!

one simple way is to change your AI prefs – clipboard – to export AICB not PDF.

then you can copy your paths and paste them onto a solid in AE and begin working.

I have a tute – the 3d grid Screens – that might help

eeeep – no chance of reshooting with a proper camera?

    Sounds like a mess.

Well – the best keys from DV are going to be with Ultimatte Advantage – or DV Garage’s DVMatte

It actually upsamples the chroma and smoothes it before keying – something very needed with DV footage.

Not sure if this will fix your camera’s problems tho – you might be stuck playing around… A LOT.

Hope that helps a little tho – if you do DV keying – those plugs are life savers.

well – not sure if it’s what you want – but just check out maps.google.com – pretty amazing. Turn on satelite and hybrid for an extra treat. May help for screenshots or research. Also – MSN has their virtual world as well.

    Hope that helps!

you can also copy/paste clips into AE for further effects work. I try to use Premiere as much as poosible – since it’s so much faster. Only in the end do I render out of AE as little as I need to get the job done.

Nevertheless – all my graphic heavy pieces are totally AE. (For instance – both pieces at https://www.paulsteelman.com/jayse)

    Hope that helps!

I believe that feature is only available in AE – unless there’s something third party that I don’t know about. You can easily transfer your AE project into Photoshop tho – any reason for not doing so?

  • Ah yeah – it’s a bit hidden and I had to figure it out for myself here – they’ve replaced that with the less intuitive ‘alt+drag’ –

Alt/option dragging is Adobe’s duplicate shortcut so I figured I’d try it – and it works. You can do it with individual properties as well – just a shadow for instance – although it doesn’t highlight the single property to indicate that it’s the one being duped. Odd – less intuitive, like I said – but it all still works at least.

I also have a few CS2 video tutes for free at http://www.xeler8r.com that explains things like that.

    Hope that helps!

July 3, 2005 at 12:06 am in reply to: Wacom Pad Question?

    Hey there Michael,

There’s quite a few posts on this if you want to search ’em out with a lot of detail – but basically my feeling is Wacom is the top – the Intuos III being the one to get – no smaller than 6×8

I’ve tried a TON of them – from small to huge – all different brands – this intuos III just feels different – it’s got a nice ‘drag’ to the pen so that you don’t feel like you’re slip-sliding everywhere as with other models and other brands. I also like the custom keys on both sides.

Some people like ’em on the desk – I like ’em in my lap. Takes a while to get used to – but then you feel lost without it.

The expense was HUGE for me when I first got one – now I look at them and think: only $350???

In other words – I find them very worth it.

    Hope that helps!
