Not sure i understand your problem – but i’ll try to help.
When you print is it cutting off directly proportional to those lines? Many printers have SET in Stone limits as to how near the edge of the paper they can print. I have an Epson that can print borderless (all the way to the ends) – but this is more rare than common. This may be your problem.
You can always look for options like “maximize print area” – many printers have this. However they’ll still want typically at least a quarter of an inch of blank space all the way around – and a little more on one side which is where the roller’s ‘grab’ the sheet to feed it through.
Hope that helps – oh – and one last thing – you can do it the old fashioned way which is to print onto 11×17 with crops and cut down.
Hope that helps a bit.

Proxies are awesome and just not used enough by the general AE crowd. However they are extremely easy and a huge time saver.
If you need more help – I write about them and MANY other ways of speeding up your workflow and rendering in AE at http://www.xeler8r.com

Hope that helps!

not sure if i entirely understand your needs – but you can make a layer cast shadows ONLY – in which case it will disappear and cast a shadow – it’s in the material options of each 3d layer
Then all your other layers can be set to not cast shadows.
does that help?

Yeah – just think about Macromedia becoming part of Adobe. You’ll start to understand just WHY they HAVE to start getting their act together interface wise – and the Encore/Premiere/Adobe/Audition tie is quite solid now. Possibly the most solid of any suite of apps i’ve used.
They also rearranged a lot of things to make it easier on new users. Effects that were once randomly placed are now in ‘folder’s that make sense to even a newbie.
I think the big thing that’s hard to communicate through press is just how much your workflow will improve now. It’s sooooooooooooooo much better/nicer and less annoying than before. In our work – that’s worth a lot.
Trust me tho – that AE/PS integration with layer styles is something I’ve been FRequesting for forever. I want PS to rebuild it’s layerstyle engine – so maybe they’re waiting on that. Next release???
(side note – the new ‘convert to smart object’ in PS CS2 brings the layer effected layer in great into AE – of course flattened. But at least you can go back to PS and make changes without saving multiple versions. Smart Objects rawk)

Like Barend – I haven’t needed to go back to 6.5 since August either… It’s a thing that, I think, might only be experienced. Once you get used to the interface it’s mad brilliant and works in a way that will make you dread AE 6.5 and previous.
The reason they don’t often upgrade the interface is that this took a TON of work – it took a long time to make all that stuff flow smoothly and not completely crash out systems. In other words – time away from other requests and wish list items.
But in my opinion – thank GOD they did. It was WELL worth it.
Take a look at other releases – full version jumps and not half of what this .5 update has. This one is less bells and whistles – more core workflow enhancements that really help your bottom line.
For me it’s a ‘about time!’ type of update. Great stuff – not just the TimeWarp. 😉

I have some free Photoshop tutorials at http://www.xeler8r.com – as well as a more comprehensive CD Video set (over 10 hours) – made pretty much for people exactly like you that need to be experts FAST. I teach you all the ‘advanced’ ways of doing things – but in a way that even beginners appreciate.
If you prefer books you might also want to check out quick tip books like the ones by Scott Kelby and Deke McClelland.
Hope that helps!

in the brushes dialog box (in the upper right hand corner) there’s a section that doesn’t look like a section – it’s VERY well hidden and looks like a header. But if you click it – you’ll find all your options for rotating brushes etc.
It’s called “Brush Tip Shape” of all things. There you’ll see options to rotate (angle) and even flip x or flip y. You can also just click and drag inside the circle diagram. Hold down shift to constrain the angle.
Hope that helps!

Tablets are GREAT!
But they do have a learning curve. If you’re left handed like me – even more. I was used to using my right hand to mouse around – so now being able to use my left like I draw was totally disorienting.
I had to take my mouse away to force me to use it.
One thing i learned: Buy Wacom – Intuos III. I’ve bought tons of different ones. They really don’t work so good – but the Intuos III is magic. The pen is different – the surface is different – the pen tips are different and you have the extra keys right on the tablet. It’s VERY worth it
Second thing: Get a 6×8 – or better – the new widescreen version (if your monitors are wide – or use dual monitors)
I used a 4×5 for about a year and a half. When I got a new 6×8 I was like “THIS Is what I’ve been missing!!!!” It allows for much more natural drawing. I also have a 9×12 – which is my favorite. However – when i’m on the road I take my 6×8.Dealnews has the 4×5 for $49 and the 6x8s really cheap too – so check out dealnews.com and search for wacom.
Third thing: try it on your lap. I was so uncomfortable until I tried placing the thing in my lap. Then it’s like a lil notebook you’re drawing in.
Fourth thing – really play with the control panel settings to make it fit you.
Fifth thing – forget the mouse that comes with it – I never use that. I have my Logitech Laser Mx1000 always plugged in at the same time for things like 3D and scrolling long documents. Other than that I usually use the pen.
Sixth – having the pen in your hand while typing will take a lil while to get use to – but after a while you won’t notice it.
Seventh thing – your coworkers really seem to respect you more when you use a tablet… odd. 😛
Thre’s a lot i could tell you – but I hope that helps.
And about the lines disappearing – are you working in Illustrator perhaps? There’s a setting you have to change for that inside Illustrator. I’ve never heard of that in Photoshop tho – but Wacom tech support is usually pretty responsive.
cheers!
