I have a decent understanding of the two applications, but here is where I get confused. I am creating a photo/video show. Basically a slideshow (nothing professional at all), but some of the neat effects I want to add, I obviously end up doing them in After Effects. This afternoon I asked myself, how come I don’t just do the entire thing in After Effects. Am I going down a path here, that I will regret later?

    Thanks for the time.

Premiere Pro is great for doing cuts oriented editing – it is waaaay faster than AE for that kind of stuff – and its timelines are very good for doing rolling edits and things like that.

If most of your stuff is compositing/motion work, it might be better to do your stuff in AE.

    I use both.

I would suggest using premier to cut together a “shot flow” & basic narritive. Then click & drag your project timeline into after effects. Thats how they have been designed to work together

That makes sense, but I’m not able to drag them over.

Click import on the AE window and choose the Premiere project. It will import everything into a folder where you can then open up the timeline in AE. I’ve had some problems with some of the edits getting screwed up in AE, but they’re usually pretty quick to fix.

you can also copy/paste clips into AE for further effects work. I try to use Premiere as much as poosible – since it’s so much faster. Only in the end do I render out of AE as little as I need to get the job done.

Nevertheless – all my graphic heavy pieces are totally AE. (For instance – both pieces at https://www.paulsteelman.com/jayse)

    Hope that helps!
