    Hi,

I’m trying to build a key on some green screen footage that was (regrettably) shot on miniDV. It seems the camera had some internal calibration issues, and there is a saturation shift some pixels in the horizontal axis. When I do my key, the subject has a white fringe on the right side and is eaten away on the left.

I have tried tracking the alpha channel from a duplicate layer that has been shifted to the left a bit, but this doesn’t quite solve the problem. The subject’s skin and hair/clothes are affected differently, I suspect because of the saturation in his skin as opposed to his black hair/clothes.

I’ve also tried just choking the matte a little, but that causes terrible fuzzing around the chin.

Any ideas on how to isolate the saturation and push it over?

    Thank you,
    -Karim

Just a tip, use multiple layers when you are keying, use one key for the hair, another one for the body, etc. and that way you could manage to isolate the hard parts.

also, check this link https://www.aenhancers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40, it has a link to an effects preset you can use to get better result with keying minidv

eeeep – no chance of reshooting with a proper camera?

    Sounds like a mess.

Well – the best keys from DV are going to be with Ultimatte Advantage – or DV Garage’s DVMatte

It actually upsamples the chroma and smoothes it before keying – something very needed with DV footage.

Not sure if this will fix your camera’s problems tho – you might be stuck playing around… A LOT.

Hope that helps a little tho – if you do DV keying – those plugs are life savers.
