I have the camera…yes the zoom sucks, and having no ND filter isn’t great.
The low light on this camera is amazing ….18 db of gain and it looks great. I don’t go over 6 db on my EX3.
    Great travel camera.

At first Sony said it would be a firmware fix, but the latest news suggests it a a hardware fix. No timeline for fix yet, they just say sometime next year. As for the nd filter…no fix in post just buy one that will fit with the lens hood on.

Yes ,this camera works well with Vegas. The low light is amazing. The biggest problem with this camera is the zoom.
Sony admits there is a problem and says a fix is comming. For now if you want a smoother zoom you must use an external controller. Also be aware that this camera has no nd filter. Other than that the camera is amazing.

I feel your pain! I have been a vegas user since version 3,and yes each version gets more bugs.
With that said, all nle’s have more bugs with each release.just as the news today can only talk about wiener,
NLE’s can only talk about 3d and the next new add on we don’t want. So what I’m saying is as much as I hate the crashes and bugs there is not a great nle to switch to.

I share your pain. with each new release there is a one step forward and two steps back result. the bugs are getting far worse, but at the same time we are getting a ton of new features. I would like to see Sony fix what we have been asking for for YEARS and not add features that “everyone is adding” like 3d. I for one would still like to see faster building peaks, and a preview that always works full frame rate with full res.(use the multicore processor for preview).I have a i7 980 extreme w/24 gigs of ram and the building peaks is as slow as it ever was. The problem is that all the nles out there are also buggy and have problems. at least with Vegas I can keep the ver 8,9,and 10 on the same computer and can complete a project with a combination of builds.

I have been editing with Vegas since version 3 and since Sony bought the company the software has steadily gone down hill.
I get more features with each new release but I get a lot more bugs with each release. I have 3 systems with Sony Vegas pro 9.0e on them and they all crash consistanty. The only way to get through an entire edit is to have multiple versions on your computer. I have versions of 8 and 9 64 and 32 bit just to make it through. I wish Sony could make what we have work before adding more features. I now work with Vegas along with cs5, ediius, pro producer, and others. Each program has it’s strengths. I use to be able to get it all done in Vegas, but those days seem a long time ago. I always expect some bugs in a new program, but Sony has taken this to a new level…just look at version 9 at an e release now over a year later and it’s far from fixed. Who can wait that long to fix a product? I hope Vegas doesn’t end up like Sonys sacd format…a great product, but sonys greed has killed it.

Here we go again. 9e wont preview well and if i import from multiple dvd discs – I have to close down and reopen after each disc or Vegas hangs.

    Sony…this many bad revs in a row…really!
one step forward and 3 steps back.

I agree that i would prefer to render with the mp4 codec, but this doesn’t help when the client wants .wmv

I have bought 2 programs to do what vegas should do but for some reason wont or cant.

1-Power director for .wmv – it is consumer software that uses gpu and cpu (all cores) and will render .wmv, mp2 etc MUCH faster than vegas.

2- Pro Producer 4 – for still montages – I can load full res stills w/ cropping, zooming, blurring, crazy effects, and it all plays in real time.

I have been using Vegas since ver 3 and with each new rev after 7.0 there is a new set of problems. Thanks Sony!

These 2 programs are cheap and i use then along with Vegas.
I wish Sony would look at what these programs are doing and incorporate them into Vegas.

March 18, 2010 at 9:03 pm in reply to: EX1 and Adobe Onlocation (?)

On location will not work w/ ex1 or ex3 in HD (HD cannot come from the firewire port)
It will only work in sd from firewire, and you have to go into the camera menu to turn it on.
