Noah, you can do it either way.
I just did a test with P2 shooting DV at 24pA
The remove advanced pulldown with FCP 5.1.2 actually
works when you capture from P2 now…..
If you forget to check the box yes you can select the clip
and go Tools > Remove Advanced Pulldown.

Versions below 5.1.2 the option to Remove Advanced Pulldown during
    P2 capture does not work.
You then have to use Tools > Remove Advanced Pulldown.

Using Cinema Tools is an option to batch process a bunch
of clips so you don’t have to sit there and do it
    one at a time.

With 24PA you most remove the pulldown before editing…
    Depending on your FCP version?
With FCP 5.1.2 the remove advanced pulldown works in the
P2 import. You should then be able to use the DV NTSC 23.98 easy set-up….
If you any version below 5.1.2 you must use Cinema Tools to
remove the advanced pulldown before editing.

  • I forgot to add….
Check the focus because 95 is usually infinity…
If you actually focus to infinity it will be soft.

  • if it is for HD try this

    Detail +2
    VDetail 0
    Detail Coring +2
    Chroma +1
    Chroma Phase 0
    Color Temp 0

    News Gamma OFF
    Gamma Cinelike V
    Knee AUTO
    Matrix NORM

We do this all the time, as a matter of fact
most of the timelapses on http://www.motionzonehd.com
    are shot with the HVX.
If you get 2 – 4 gig cards
you can shoot 8 min on timelapse at 1080 30p…
    plenty for most situations…

Can you capture from the deck directly as a DVCPRO HD file??
If so you could capture at 720 29.97 and then use
Cinema Tools to conform that file to 23.976 and then
that file can be dropped into a 720 24p timeline.

    Hello Scott:
If you shot 24p not 24pN it will show as 29.97
you can use Cinema Tools and reverse tele-cine to
    get a 24p file you can use in a 24p timeline…

    Hello Scott:
export your timeline first as a QT .mov
then close FCP. Open compressor and pick
    a DVD set-up…It should be a 16:9 set-up if
    coming from HD…
Use the files created in DVD SP
