    test

  • I would try upgrading to 5.1.1 and then to 5.1.2 I think there were a few bugs
    with P2 import on 5.0.4

Edius on the PC will read DVCPRO HD files but only through Edius,
I have not been able to preview full screen.

    Thanks for that info…
Yes the thin line thing in HD has caught
    me a few times….
I hated to go back and blur the HD version
so someone could view it on an old
    interlace TV….

Don’t know if I can answer your questions directly but:
We shoot with the HVX and edit FCP…
But we have clients who log on a PC with the Pana viewer…
We give them everything we shoot on a FAT 32 drive…
    As a back-up and for logging….
Right now they just give me paper notes but we
are working through the MetaData flow to see how we
    can utilize that….
I then export P2 to QT in FCP the takes marked…
Edit and then back-up the QT files to the clients
    drive as well…
In the past we would do a delete and restore but
now we just buy new drives for each project and clone
then when that job is done…
I realize with large projects this could get expensive
or cumbersome but we are working on a show
and the files are at 120 gigs and counting…
It will all be for DVD and HD-DVD…

No need to go to tape….
    Your files are already digitized…
Archive the P2 contents on two drives…
keep one and give the other to the client…
If they are running FCP, it is easy
to import the P2 contents into FCP…
If they are on AVID or Edius the same is true..
You need to do some client education
because going back to tape is a waste
    of time on both ends….
I have clients who are PC only
and can log and give me notes using
    the Pana P2 viewer…
For some we buy a new dedicated Firewire
800 drive that contains the P2 contents
    and all the Quicktime files…
Still figuring this out as we go
but an expensive tape deck is not part
    of our solution….

    Matt is right…
if one worked and the others did not….
    try raylight from DVfilm.com
it can take just the .mxf file and allow you to edit
and at least copy the clips somehow…this is PC,
on the mac P2 log can look at the .mxf file and
    let you export it….
    e-mail me at dvd.pro@verizon.net
and you could upload a single .mxf file
    for me to analyze….
    Thanks
