P2 footage, no LASTCLIP.TXT

Make a NEW folder – Move the entire CONTENTS folder into the NEW folder.
Create a new LASTCLIP.TXT using this info from each CONTENTS>VIDEO
Look in the VIDEO folder. Look at the last clip
it will be named 6 characters here is an example – 0005NH.mxf
So using that just build a LASTCLIP.TXT like this

0005NH
1.0
6

0005NH (clip number
1.0 (Not sure what this is)
6 (number of clips +1)

Just type that info in notepad and save as LASTCLIP.TXT
and copy into your NEW folder……

It is worth a shot…
This should work if you have not messed around with the contents in
the CONTENTS folder….

hey, i ran into the same problem a while ago…

I did the abov mentioned trick and like you said, i could get the icons but no imports….what I ended up doing was using a program called HD Log to export the files, which seemed to work for some reason….

side note…i was having a really hard time with this one clip even when i got all the other ones going, it kept quitting out right at the end of the export…long story short, the end of the clip must have been corrupted, i noticed it was freezing on a specific frame in the viewer, i had to trim the clip and export only the portion that was fine, and boom, that worked…

also, apparently Avid Express Pro HD for windows only can read the files without a lastclip file…

I’ve logged/imported hundreds of P2 cards (which means thousands of clips) since the HVX200 was first released into the wild. We were one of the first places in the midwest to take delivery of a camera, so we’ve been working with it for a while.

I’ve NEVER copied over a lastclip.txt file and have never had a problem importing any clips. We use FCP for editing P2 material and a custom AppleScript along with a PowerBook and external FireWire drives to copy the data from the P2 cards.

Perhaps missing the lastclip.txt file(s) is not the real problem.

Thanks for the help. Good news, bad news. I tried your method, and it worked on the very first reel. I was thrilled! Went to do the same thing on the other 7, and nothing. Same message as before. I watched Shane’s tutorial and then looked at my files in finder, and noticed that the last file on the list wasn’t always the last one modified, so I went back and changed the LASTCLIP.TXT, but I’m still getting the same message. The footage on the first reel looks great, and I’ve got to think I can somehow get the rest. What can I try next? This is the pilot for a new HD series, and I really could use that footage.

Matt is right…
if one worked and the others did not….
try raylight from DVfilm.com
it can take just the .mxf file and allow you to edit
and at least copy the clips somehow…this is PC,
on the mac P2 log can look at the .mxf file and
let you export it….

As a backup plan, consider P2 Log from Imagine Software, I’ve had it import clips when FCP refused to so it may be able to do things for you that will solve your struggle. I don’t know what’s causing it, I’m sure the FCP Experts here can walk you through it, but as a backup plan P2 Log might be able to do it too.
