Just downloaded the 5.1.2 update, and now FCP crashes on launch. I searched the forums before I did this, but there you go.

    OSX 10.4.8
    FCP 5.1.2
    DP 1.8 GHz
    2.5GB DDR SDRAM

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else find a soution?

Here’s the thread, one of these suggestions should work. Quicktime shouldn’t be an issue because you needed to install QT 7.1.3 just to install FCP 5.1.2.

got any third party plug ins installed? Zaxwerks is known to give issues.

Start removing 3rd party plug ins and add them back on by one and launch FCP after you add them, then quit FCP until FCP doesn’t open. Then you’ll know which plug in it is.

    Also, check this:

    Hey Everybody

Thanks for your posts. Here’s what worked for me:

    https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304477

I took all the 3d party stuff out of the \libray\quicktime folder

For me it was the following:

    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    Blackmagic Codec.component
    Blackmagic RT Color Correction.component
    Blackmagic RT Dissolves.component
    Blackmagic RT Image Control.component
    CanonMJPEGAVI.component
    CineLoaderComponents.component
    CineWaveComponents.component
    DivX 5.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
    InstantMediaOSX.lib
    Media100 HD.component
    Media100.component
    MotionTrial.component
    TSCC.component

Final Cut loads now, but I don’t know which of the above is causing the problem.

[Budrick21] “Final Cut loads now, but I don’t know which of the above is causing the problem.”

Just keep adding them back one by one and keep re-launching FCP until it crashes. My guess is the CineWave, Canon or Divx.

Hey there, Walter, you were correct. It was CanonMJPEGAVI.component that was the culprit.

    Bad, Canon, bad!

    Everything seems fine now.

Glad you found it. Definitely the way Apple is reading the codecs and plug-ins has changed so that is definitely affecting some systems. Now everyone just need to catch up with updates.

A quick update – these Avid components are also causing the problem:

    AvidAVDJCodec.component
    AvidAVUICodec.component

    [Budrick21] “AvidAVDJCodec.component
    AvidAVUICodec.component”

Yeah, people caught those the first day in other threads down below. Kind of fun making the “evil empire” codecs not work. 🙂
