  • This is killin me; ‘Incomplete or corrupt clips’ on import

Posted by Phillip Powell on October 1, 2006 at 1:17 am

It worked for a while. Off loaded card contents to external drive by way of Power book PC slot. Transferred drive to edit system, Import from Panasonic P2—no problems as first. Didn’t change anything that I know of, now…..

I’m going nuts and desperate. No matter what, cannot import into FCP 5.0.4 p2 clips.

The thumb nails show up in the import window, whether I select all, or just try one clip,
always the same message: ‘One or more p2 clips failed to import. Probable incomplete or corrupt clips.’

They play fine in the camera. I record to FireStore 100, and import, everything’s fine.

But try as I may, there is no way to get this to work. Down loaded the P2PCCard Install.pkg, ran on all drives. Nothing.

Tried copying card contents to different drives. Nope.

I’ve off loaded P2 cards and had no problems until now. No red clips in the clip thumbs in the camera, so nothing to repair.

I mean, if the thumbs show up why won’t this work?

    Going nuts, any ideas appriciated.

    Thanks,

I would try upgrading to 5.1.1 and then to 5.1.2 I think there were a few bugs
    with P2 import on 5.0.4

If it worked before and now it doesn’t…..you have answered your own question. Perhaps the best thing to do is to reload your machine. Obviously something is corrupted.

We are (still) using FCP 5.0.4 for ingest of P2 cards and it works great. 8GB cards with clips that span multiple cards. No issues.

Again it sound slike corruption of one or more apps/codecs, etc. We recetly lost a primary HDD on a workstation. The few bugs we were having with AE7 and a few other apps disappeared with a “fresh” load of OSX and all the apps/updates.

    Just a suggestion.

Thanks, guess I’ll give that a try. Waiting on the 5.1 ‘Cross Grade’ so I can up date FCP.

    Appriciate the reply.

FCP 5.1.1 is actually the most friendly version to date with questionable P2 files. 5.1.2 is a much friendlier interface and is working to simplify the whole process but it offers no leway in potentially damaged clips. It will also initially mark spanned clips as damaged until it sees the counter part of the span.
5.1.2 will not complete the import of an incomplete or corrupt clip it will just bail. Whereas 5.1.1 will import and make useable as much as possible.
We imported all the questionable clips in 5.1.1 and then incorporated them into our 5.1.2 project.
As far as your specific problem – have you tried it on another machine? We had a similar problem recently and it was due to a faulty P2 store, luckily we still had the cards as a back up.
5.1.2 also handles P2 and MXF diferently than before – it essentially puts a quicktime wrapper around the MXF file – grouping the meta, audio video and thumnail data.
    Hope this helps.

    Strange tho.

In trying to see if I could import directly from the camera, I noticed that the P2 card mounted on my desk top as
    ‘NO NAME’.

    Which imported just fine.

So with all the folders I’d dumped out, I just changed the name one at a time to ‘NO NAME’ and imported just fine.

PIA, but hey, it works now.

Additionally, no clips showed in the camera that there was a problem with them that needed repair. Why that would be
    any way is beyond me…
