If your have Photoshop just re-size the images…
You can also adjust gamma & brightness…
Thats what we do and the results look great! -
Make a NEW folder – Move the entire CONTENTS folder into the NEW folder.
Create a new LASTCLIP.TXT using this info from each CONTENTS>VIDEO
Look in the VIDEO folder. Look at the last clip
it will be named 6 characters here is an example – 0005NH.mxf
So using that just build a LASTCLIP.TXT like this0005NH
1.0
60005NH (clip number
1.0 (Not sure what this is)
6 (number of clips +1)Just type that info in notepad and save as LASTCLIP.TXT
and copy into your NEW folder……It is worth a shot…
This should work if you have not messed around with the contents in
the CONTENTS folder….Good Luck

Lets talk Apples to Apples….
First, are you going to shoot with the HVX at 1080 24p or 720 24p??
Because DVCPRO 50 is 720×480…
How much material will you have from the Z1? It might be more
pratical to rent a 2nd HVX and forget the Z1..
You can in FCP convert the Z1 footage, that involves a proper
de-interlacing and frame rate conversion from 29.97 to 23.976
using Cinema Tools, this should work for video only,
might get messy of you need to work with on-camera audio….
Again, run some test before spending weeks shooting footage… -
I do this all the time….Shoot at 12 fps in the 720 24pN setting…
In FCP just use the motion tab and make the clip play at 50%….
With the frame rate hack you can shoot from 2fps and I have
presets for 2 4 6 and 8 – who do I appreciate?
and using your shutter you can dial the shutter up to 350
degrees for some real cool effects…
Does not involve the Frame Rate convertor at all….
That is only used for footage shot at 720 60p 59.94 -
“I copied the entire folders via Windows Explorer from the cards to new individual directories on my laptop’s external drives.”
Just make sure the CONTENTS & LASTCLIP.txt do not go down two levels….
It should be >P2_CARD_FOLDER_01>CONTENTS & LASTCLIP.txt
Then in P2 viewer you point the finder to P2_CARD_FOLDER_01
If you have something like this >ORIGINAL_FOLDER>P2_CARD_FOLDER_01>CONTENTS & LASTCLIP.txt
that could be a problem….
the fact you can see the P2 card means everthing is installed and working….
And make sure your drive is mounted properly….I have seen stranger things…
And do not mess around with adding or deleting files in the CONTENTS folder!!
Good luck -
Thats what we do with the added step of archiving 4 gig cards to a DVD-R,
a client also shot with 8 gig cards the other day…
Not sure what to do with those, dual-layer DVD I guess….
I thing I noticed using P2 log…on the MAC if you add any
logging info and save it that same P2 CONTENTS cannot be read
on a PC using the Panasonic P2 viewer….
We edit with MAC and the client is only PC so we
dumped all P2 cards for them to a Seagate 500 gig drive
and he can view and make notes for us using his PC…
What is needed is cross compatability of P2 log and the
P2 viewer… -
How much stuff is it?? To rent a $1400 per day deck just to have a back-up to tape makes no sense.
You can re-import the P2 card CONTENTS to any MAC. Why go through thr hassle of importing
into your MAC, output to tape and then they are going to re-digitize the tape??
Makes no sense. I could understand if you where completing a show and
needed HDCAM. The future is digital bits & bytes. Say good-bye to the tape deck. -
Kent: I forgot to mention PPro cannot read the HVX .mxf files anyway. I hate to say it again but it will be much easier to edit with something else.
-
Kent,
It is a DVCPRO HD file. PPro will not read it. Edius on the PC will. My suggestion is to dump PPro if you want to use the HVX.
I was looking at the Matrox AXIO for a few months but finally went to FCP. FCP is great and now with the faster Apple
desktops there is editing life beyond PPro.
