    All,

We have been shooting primarily indoors/studio lights/greenscreen, etc with our HVX-200. Everything in the studio has been exquisite. (720 30p)

I performed our first out of doors shoot yesterday with mixed results.

I loved the close ups and medium shots. (forested scenes of a national park and wildlife, deer, eagles, etc.) (720 30pn @ 30fps and 60fps slo-mo)

The wide shots however are lacking. Everything seems—well–rather soft and defocused.

I was shooting distance shots (no zoom–camera at widest) f6/f11, 250 shutter, focus on infinity.
The scene file (we had been told to use in the studio) is as follows:

    Detail -3
    VDetail 0
    Detail Coring +2
    Chroma 0
    Chroma Phase 0
    Color Temp 0
    Master Ped 0
    A Iris 0
    News Gamma OFF
    Gamma Cinelike V
    Knee AUTO
    Matrix NORM
    Skin Tone Detail OFF
    V Detail Freq THIN

I used these settings outdoors as well…and I believe they are the root of the problem.

Suggested settings for OUTDOOR MOUNTAIN/SKY/WATER PANORAMAS would be greatly appreciated. (Again, we have not received our book yet…thanks Panasonic…its been 4 months.)

    Chroma Phase 0
    Color Temp 0
    Master Ped -3
    A Iris 0
    News Gamma OFF
    Gamma Cinelike V
    Knee AUTO
    Matrix NORM

    I forgot to add….
Check the focus because 95 is usually infinity…
If you actually focus to infinity it will be soft.

    Hi,

If you wish, you can send me an email off-line, include your serial number, the name of your dealer and your name and address and I will check the files to see what happened. You should have it by now if you signed in at the website when it when up at the beginning of August.

What I have found when there is a problem, is that there are,in general, three main reasons, the mail lost the application, there is a problem with the serial number, or there is a problem with the shipping address and the book has been returned to us.

crittendenj at us.panasonic.com I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best,

    Jan

Sounds like a back focus issue. Shoot this test: Zoom in on something far away. Zoom out and check to see if you are in focus. If not, you have a back focus problem.

Thanks all for the earlier feedback.

    RE: Back Focus…

I was not aware that could be set/adjusted on these little camcorders? Is that so? Or do these units sometimes ship with misaligned optics? (Requiring bench disassembly/alignment?)

    Enlighten me please.
