Trying to open some P2 files on a PC and an OT for Luis
This is my first experience with P2 so please forgive my ignorance. I was handed a hard drive this week and told that the footage was shot on P2 then transfered to the hard drive. AVID (DS or Symphony) is the final destination for these files. I tried to view the quicktime files on a PC but could only hear the audio. I have come to the conclusion that I need the DVCPro HD codec. I have been trying to find it to download, with no success. Any thoughts on where I might find it? or could my problem be something else?

There is no native quicktime codec for PCs in DVCPRO HD. Check into Raylight (a pc program) that MIGHT help you, but I’m not sure if it will read quicktime movies. It might need the native MXF files.

If you want to view MXF files on the PC, you can download the free P2 Viewer software from Panasonic’s website.
If you have Apple Quicktime files on that hard disk, and they were rendered in the DVCPRO-HD codec, then you will need either Canopus EDIUS Broadcast or Avid XPress Pro to view those files. Quicktime player by itself will not show them; Apple has so far not updated the Windows version of Quicktime to be able to play those files.
