Instead of applying 8 Fast Blurs, put ONE on a Adjustment Layer above your AI layers.

You may have “Always Preview This View” selected. And maybe that view has no frames. Bottom left of the comp window. Looks like a teevee screen.

I think the Terminator (Governator, ha!) saw heat signatures. This is most simply simulated using the Colorama effect. It’s not perfect, but any audience will get the drift.
For an enhancement of the effect precede it with a medium-strong Fast Blur.

Select the layer. Press AA. Click the shadow “value” until it says “only”.

Sandwich your footage between two copies of yourself. Press F4 and set the Track Matte to Alpha inverted. The top YOU becomes hidden because it’s just used as a reference.

Yes. Worst case scenario, you take a DV camera attached via Fire Wire and use RCA cables to connect it to a consumer teevee.

You shouldn’t have to adjust position. Set the Anchor Point to the bottom of your footage. When you scale it will grow from the anchor point.

Hold down Command while you scrub your timeline. Unless your on Windows. Then, I’m not sure Command will work. Maybe try Control. Actually, just get a Mac and use Command.
The decimal point on the keypad will play an audio preview based your AE preferences.
