Hi chaps … I’m soon to embark on a new freelance career and will, on occassions, be required to take some kit to the customers premises rather than work at home on my trusty old G4. I have a new Mbook pro and an external monitor (19″tft) and think I have all the basics covered but if anyone has any thoughts … you know the things you forgot to take last time you went on the road ! More importantly … I am used to having a crt monitor to check stuff on and wonder if anyone can suggest a way of doing this with something reasonably portable … someone suggested that I could maybe feed it through a little mini dv camera that I have via firewire … I’ll have a go later but any advice very welcome. many thanks Roger

    [Roger BURTON] “customers premises”

Would that be a production house or a corporate office. The first would have most of what you need (unless it’s all tied up with other users), the second is another matter. Would you need a deck to get stuff in/out? If the end product is destine for somewhere other then the boardroom or conference center you’ll want a good monitor (this could be an LCD) and WFM. If you use an LCD watch out for possible interlacing problems that you will not see (till its to late).

If you got the money a lot of this can be built into a case with wheels. Then you just have to hope for an elevator.

Yes. Worst case scenario, you take a DV camera attached via Fire Wire and use RCA cables to connect it to a consumer teevee.

Yep my worry is interlacing and colour and stuff …. I’ve been used to seeing my comps on a glass output, and the assurance this offers, so I’d like to find a solution … or do I take a chance. I’ll keep digging and experimenting … thanks for taking the time … Roger

Thanks Ian … when you say ” … worst case scenario … ” is it really going to be that bad …. after using a pro monitor for years am I really going to get a realistic view of my output doing it that way or am I just wasting my time ? …. what do you think chaps …. Roger
