A quick search of the archives found this post from Rick Gerard. I say post, more like a full-on tutorial. 🙂

sounds to me like you’re almost there, although i’m not sure, as the image link you posted is broken. You’re already nesting your beam layer in another comp, for the displacment to work?

Which filter are you using to create the ‘beam’? If it’s Beam, then it’s easy. Keyframing either length or time settings will get it moving.

    Hope that helps

I’m glad my post helped others too 🙂

I’ve ended up combining Barend’s technique with the preset, but reducing the strength of the key the preset produced. As with all these things, i think tweaking is always essential, i’m just really, really happy a place like the Cow exists.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Thanks guys for all your help.

To answer your questions Dave, the footage is captured in Premiere Pro via firewire, and i must confess i don’t know which codec it is, although it’s the same capture codec i use for the web video stuff.

Thanks Barend and Martin, i’m going to try both techniques side by side to see which one gives me the best results.

  • Particle Playground / Particle Illusion can do this sort of thing, but not great. In either case, you have to create a mask in the shape of the letters, and then expand it out past the screen, the particles will drop away. With a decent number and a tweaked blur, you should be able to approximate liquid, but only just.

I would guess that if you buy the pro licence, it covers broadcast use.

A quote from Google Earth’s website:
Google Earth received national attention during the Iraq war when CNN and other broadcast media utilized Google Earth solutions to show satellite imagery of Baghdad on air. Today Google Earth is in use by broadcast and print media across the US and the world, from CNN to the New York Times.

There was a discussion here a little while ago about using time remapping controlled by an expression.

I think you could get a shot of the rat’s mouth open and one of it closed, then use the audio-to-keyframes feature to create a set of time remapping keyframes to sync up the rat to the voice. Unfortunately i can’t help you with the expressions bit, but maybe a search here would find you the answer.

    Good luck

  • Hi Dave

Yeah, i can turn off the audio and it processes no problem. The problem is that even limiting the work area doesn’t stop AE from running out of memory. It’s like it ignores the work area limits and pre-processes all the audio file.

Very frustrating. When i get the chance i might reinstall it and see if that fizes the problem
