The space bar resetting the play point back to where you started is a very handy feature. Just get in the habit of stopping playback with the enter key if you want the cursor to stay where it is. Eneter will also start playback.

Not sure exactly what you mean by “groups”, but if they are in different sections of the timeline, you could create a region that defines their area and name it. You do this by dragging a time selection and hitting the R key.

What preview mode are you set to?
Also, do you have a second computer monitor hooked up? If so, use it with preview out to secondary monitor.

It means that the Cineform files are good enough to create your project without swapping to the original HDV files before final output.

However, Vegas 7 makes intermediate files unnesesary as it handles m2t files just fine. You need to figure out what the bottleneck is on your machine.

First, you should use File > Import> DVD Camcoder Disc.

Probably, the best tool to do what you want is the Color Curves FX.

Also, how are you judging if the video is dark? Your monitor may not be set up correctly. How does it look on the waveform monitor?
