I have had 2 Dells now and am waiting on my second replacement. Just bad luck maybe, but the illumination was not as consistent as with my Apple Cinema 23 and 17. Also, no biggie, but the built in card reader didn’t like some brands of CF cards.

My first replacement was a refurb and for some reason it had the name and number of the original owner on the packing slip. I called, thinking that he was a contact at Dell, but no, he was the original owner. The monitor, repacked by Dell, was exhibiting the same problem as he had had (very uneven illumination).

I seem to be okay with FCP5 and C2. Reference movies go crazy for me though. Durations get very strange and sync slips when I bring them to DVDSP.

I heard the team that was supposed to handle this stuff is coding for the iPod.

Not in front of a FCP now, and didn’t have to mess with anything on FCP 5, but seems to me there was a little button on the top left corner of the timeline in 4.5. Click it and “quality” settings would come up.

Its definitely a set-up issue. If things look worse to you than DV normally looks then something is not right.

Take the time to build a render preset in AE as well. Also, make sure your composition in AE is 720×486.

I get the same stupid problem. Be careful to set it back to standard dv PAR. If not, it will not match back in FCP.

Normally I’m down on all things Microsoft, but Windows Media is much prettier for the file size than any QT I’ve seen.

Premiere won’t even allow you 2 bins open at once. From time to time I am forced to work on it. Hate it.

I was having exactly the same problem. Changing to “bottom field” from auto cleaned it right up.

You’ll need to format the drive as FAT32. This will allow both to read and write. PC won’t read Mac without special software, but it is available and pretty cheap. Interestingly, the Mac will format large drives as FAT32, while the Windows won’t format over 30gigs or so.

FAT32 won’t accept individual files larger than 2 gigs.
Mac will read a Windows NTFS drive, but won’t write to it.
