Just curious, we have had apple monitors in the past. Primarily the studio display monitors that apple had. Now we’ve lost some faith in Apple monitors because most of the old ones we had burnt out quick.

My question is : Are the newer Cinema monitors that Apple has out now reliable, or is there a competing brand (I’ve heard Dell maybe) that would be more reliable and offer equal quality?

    Thanks

I think Apples monitors are excelent. I have a 30″ and a 23″.. and they may be a bit costly, but they rock ! We also have some LQ monitors at my job that are alot cheaper, but the colors are AWFUL. (especially skin colors)

I got a screaming deal on the Dell 24″. It is totally sweet, much more than I hoped for even. At the time they had a deal for 35% off, I’m not sure what they are now. EVen at full price, it’s still cheaper than apple’s.

I have 2 of the 24″ Dells and I absolutely love them. Check http://www.bensbargains.net for coupon codes to use at Dells Website. You can get them for under $900 a piece if you wait for the promotion to come.

I am firmly in the Dell 2405 camp, and have two as well. Beat the Apple 23″ monitors soundly in quality and cost.

I have had 2 Dells now and am waiting on my second replacement. Just bad luck maybe, but the illumination was not as consistent as with my Apple Cinema 23 and 17. Also, no biggie, but the built in card reader didn’t like some brands of CF cards.

My first replacement was a refurb and for some reason it had the name and number of the original owner on the packing slip. I called, thinking that he was a contact at Dell, but no, he was the original owner. The monitor, repacked by Dell, was exhibiting the same problem as he had had (very uneven illumination).

What is the best port to connect the Dell monitor? I have a G5 PowerMac tower and would like not to use the DVI port as I am using it for my broadcast crt.

DVI is the best connection for the Dell. Either get another Graphics Card with two DVI ports, or an additional one to drive the Dell.
