I’ve exported a .mov from AE as 8-bit uncompressed. I pull the .mov into FCP5, that has a project set up as 8-bit uncompressed, and I still have to render it. Shouldn’t it just play, as though it was video captured as 8-bit uncompressed. It’s not that big of a deal, but I was just curious about this. Could someone shed some light on this?

After you have selected the 8 bit uncompressed easy set up you need to make a new sequence, the existing sequence is set to whatever it is (usually dv).

Also, double check you have rendered out 720×486 lower field first, assuming that you are in NTSC land.

you should be able to drop a movie from in AE into FCP without rendering. Your settings aren’t matching somewhere in your workflow.

Project and sequence are both 8-bit. I’ll keep checking to see if something is off. Maybe the fields out of AE.

Click the render settings in the render queue and make sure field dominance is set to lower. That should do it, also make sure your timeline in AE is set to 720×486.

Take the time to build a render preset in AE as well. Also, make sure your composition in AE is 720×486.

Setting a render preset is a good idea. I should have done that a long time ago. Thanks for the advice.
