Seems particularly acute with over-cranked Red footage…

Definitely have my fingers crossed for CS6. There are about 20 little no-brainers which would make editing with Premiere soooo much easier.

I usually create a scratch timeline and drop all the clips I’m reviewing into it. Much easier than reviewing one by one. I’ll nudge selects up to V2.

So… if I render the comps in After Effects and import .movs like I would in FCP all is well, but if I wanted to do that I would just use FCP. I even re-installed 5.5 figuring something got corrupted somewhere – no luck.
Where is the best place to go for answers on this?

I am rendering the entire work area – unrendered is yellow.

Handbrakes .mp4 options are much better than Compressors. I’ve always been frustrated that Compressor was so limited with .mp4 versus an h.264 QT. Am I missing something?
I stumbled onto Handbrake recently. Uses all 8 cores, quick, good quality, and lets you set compression based on target file size or data rate. No prores though…
I know BMW, I’ve driven many, Compressor, you are no BMW.

I don’t doubt Motion’s capabilities, I’m just happy with AE for the bulk of my graphics needs and not really attracted to the Motion interface. What I am interested in Motion for I laid out above, titles I can edit in FCP, and effects which pull from the video tracks in my FCP timeline. With the first, I’ve been frustrated by render time, and with the second, I haven’t figured out a way to do what I’m trying to.
Don’t mean to step on toes by being critical of Motion – really. I’m just hoping to be pointed the way to Motion happiness for my specific needs.

Its been many years since Apple has been shipping computers with 4+ processors. Alas FCP never tickles more than two….

Hey Rafael,
New box, 10 gigs RAM, been cutting FCP for about 5 years now.
DV50 Footage from P2 on a 5 drive stripe set, more than enough throughput for many times real….From other threads I’ve found, I’m not alone. FCP rendering on an 8 core box rarely bumps above 150% CPU (of 800% possible), with Magic Bullet, I’m lucky to get 100%.
If I’m wrong, I’m very happy. Just point me to the fix and I apologize heartily for the offense my exasperation has caused. Perhaps I punched the wrong keywords in my searches.
Sorry to bore you with the rant, but here’s one more vote for making the thing work like it should. Rendering is now an essential part of editing, like the trimming that edit* v5.0 still does better than FCP, if you can find an old pentium Windows NT to run it on.
Don’t get me wrong, (though I hope I am wrong) I hate to complain, but this seems ridiculous.

For example:
I’ve found a checkmark “HEAVY CHECK MARK” in the character palette (Mac system, not AE). The system character palette indicates that it is a character in Zapf Dingbats.
Regardless of whether I have Zapf Dingbats selected in the AE palette, I am not able to insert the character from the system character palette.
If I switch to a word processor, I am immediately able to insert the character. I cannot, however, copy this into AE.
