Is there a way to move clips vertically with the keyboard in 5.5?

No. Hopefully in CS6.

Definitely have my fingers crossed for CS6. There are about 20 little no-brainers which would make editing with Premiere soooo much easier.

Even if you think that somehing’s a no-brainer, use that feature-request link that Michael gave. The more times we get a request, the more we know that people want it.
