As you drag one sequence onto another you’re nesting. Try to avoid it if you’re not that experienced because nested sequences have a few pitfalls. Hold Command while dragging sequence onto sequence.

FCP has it’s own limitations. You either work within them or go some other place. I never liked how fcp handled speed changes. Just keep in the back of you mind that software speed changes will never substitute for in-camera slow- or fast-motion. It’s always a trade-off. Depending upon various factors you either have 200% change or something next to 168,897%, for instance.

Does you audio track have valid wave forms (command + opt + w)? Open that file in finder and give it a shot – is it ok? Import audio file in FCP and try to play.

It depends totally on DVD player. I don’t bet most of them will be able to. If you aim for DVD player use toast to encode files for DVD and do not sweat it.

I once had pretty hard time w/ My Book Studio Edition while working on location. Since then I’d never let it anywhere by me unless I’m really desperate.

Then stick to ProRes family codecs; 422, HQ, or 4444 – for final editing, or Proxy, LT – if you intend to get best quality afterwards.

If you burn it as data toast’ll do nothing to decrease your file. On the other hand, if you encode file into MPEG-2 DVD you’ll get what you have, namely drastically decreased file size.
