    Hiya
I am in the process of editing a 30 minute ‘short’ drama for my MA.
I have used FCP for a few years now, but the workflow that I am using for this project
(due to the fact that the footage was shot on a Canon 60D, with audio recorded separately) is
    very new to me.

    So far, I have:
Synchronised each of my ‘takes’ with the corresponding audio, thus creating a sequence for each take.
Each scene has its own ‘Takes Bin’ containing the relevant synced sequences/takes
Each scene also has its own ‘Master Bin’ for the ‘Master’ scenes/sequence.
So far this has gone smoothly (apart from the time it takes of course)

I am now about to start creating the ‘Master’ sequences for each scene.
Each of these ‘Master sequences’ will then be brought together to create the Final cut of the film, made up from each of the Scene Masters created.
I hope that this makes sense??
This workflow is how I was advised to do it by friends that have embarked on this type of project previously.

I was surprised to find that whenever I ‘drag’ a sequence (that’s a synchronised video/audio ‘take) into the scene ‘master’ sequences, I am unable to see any audio waveforms. I could see them as normal during the previous steps of the process, but now I merely see flatlines.

Is this normal? Am I missing something obvious?
Is there a more competent process for this?

    Regards

    Cal

I hope that this rather messy explanation of my predicament is understandable, and I hope that someone can advise me on this.

As you drag one sequence onto another you’re nesting. Try to avoid it if you’re not that experienced because nested sequences have a few pitfalls. Hold Command while dragging sequence onto sequence.

    Hiya

Thanks for that – much appreciated.
When I do as you suggested, it tells me that ‘sequences may not be added to sequences recursively’
I don’t understand how that even makes sense?

    Any suggestions?

    Apologies for my apparent ignorance

Cuz you’re putin’ sequence onto itself. It’s impossible.

I’m not though – I’m merely trying to put a previously created sequence into a ‘fresh’ sequence.
That’s what seems so strange about the error message
