  • Proper way to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.x

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here goes…

Our post production facility is looking to dive into some new finishing software that requires Snow Leopard to run. However, our online editing machines are still running 10.5.8. Before throwing in an upgrade haphazardly, I was looking for some advice on the most absolute and careful procedure in doing this so that all the programs/plug-ins/drivers are preserved.

On our machines we run Final Cut Studio 3 with various plug-ins (FxFactory, Magic Bullet, etc.) and Adobe Master Collection CS 5.5. We also utilize a Kona 3 card for the usual business. Among these, we also have other programs that need to be preserved (Microsoft Office and the usual).

This may seem like an obvious question, but I’d just like to get some advice from people that have made this upgrade before with a similar build rather than dive in with only a bootable backup disc and crossed fingers.

Any advice or procedures would be appreciated.

    Both machines are running:

    2 x 3 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    12 GB 667 MHz DDR2 RAM

We’re about to do the same thing – have you found any articles on the web that may be useful? Perhaps someone here still may give some advice.

    Thanks!
