Yes, I’m jumping’ right now. It’s not FCP 7 that I leave behind – it’s the whole once familiar workflow. I’ll have to reinvent it for me and familiarize myself with it so I’ll be totally free to do what I was capable of doing with FCS. Either it’s to be Avid (my bet on it) or Adobe some changes will be necessary. It takes time. In order to be ready to pick up project on Avid in a year I need to start planing my life and heading in that direction right now. I’m phasing out FCP. Though it doesn’t mean I’m uninstalling it this very moment.

I wasn’t aiming for you, sorry. There are lots of folks frustrated. Now they can move on with their lives and get it over with. There are Adobes and Avids ready to pick up those abandoning the fsc ship.

I didn’t mean to be vague on purpose. There were lots of theories proposed as to whom Apple were supposed to be loyal to. People were upset because they thought since they were there on the very beginning Apple ought to be more attentive to their wishes. Press release shows that Apple owes you, final cut editors and others pro application users, nothing. It’s all about big money, not how many fcp editors were nominated for Oscars(tm).

There are no issues relating to Lion that I’m aware of. I use it routinely now for couple of months. Of course I have Mac OS 10.6.8 w/ FCS3 on different HDD. Should the problem arise I can switch to it. Beware, it’s not ready for production purposes yet.

Create Proxy/LT ProRes from original media, same frame rate, same resolution. Compared to your final HQ clips proxy must differ only in terms of bitrate. Afterwards reconnect to original media – specific technique of how to do it is up to you. Check some tutorials on this site on tapeless workflow and proxy media management.

Make sure you have multiclip playback checked. Take a look under RT/Safe Playback options. If you don’t have external raid it’s unrealistic to have more than 2 HD prores HQ streams played realtime.
