I export right out of FCP at the timeline’s codec all the time. Especially for archiving. I also export directly for conversion. No issues here. Sure, Compressor gives you more options and I do use it for other codecs. I also use Cleaner and Episode for other codecs. All have their uses.

I send Window Media Video files to my clients for use in Powerpoint. I use ‘Episode’ to encode.

It’s been posted before that a fix to that issue is to export the entire timeline out as a single file and then re-import, then export.

In 1080 mode, the camera will actually record interlaced. The 25p is framerate. What happens is, the camera records to tape at 1080/50i and adds the 25fps pull-down automatically. And yes, set the shutter to ‘half’ to get an accurate film/shutter look.

If you want to speed up Smoothcam, don’t render the shot on your timeline taken directly from the original captured clip. Export out of FCP just the edited shot from your timeline. Re-import it and then apply Smoothcam. If you try to do it without exporting just the part you want to use, Smoothcam will have to calculate its adjustments on the entire digitized clip, not just the section you are using in your timeline. It’s waaaaaay faster.

No, I just checked my timeline. It does not remove ANY filters. All my original color correction filters are still in place.

I just color corrected a 2 minute video and was amazed how easy to do basic CC. I didn’t dig too deep, just overall touch-up. When you ‘Send to Color’ it’s instant. All the shots appear on the Color timeline, similar to FCP. Just click on each shot, do your adjustments and Save back to FCP.

Or, you playback deck is set to the wrong settings. (i.e. tape shot at 1080i and deck set to playback 720p)
