Had the exact same trouble you are. Another Cow guy sent me a Compressor settings file that works much better. It’s not perfect, but way better. I haven’t figured out yet what the issue is.

All formats have their use. Frame size and field/progressive (720p vs 1080i) isn’t as important as frame rates. 24fps for a more theatrical, film-like look with motion blur vs. 60fps for crisper action and better slow-mo (if needed). Resizing either 1080i or 720p down to SD is easy and really doesn’t matter, they both resize well. It’s more of the frame-rate look you wanting.

The AJ-HDC27F Varicam only outputs 720p. The HDX900 does both formats.

Wow, a client that thinks you can do this easily? Were they on the shoot? Did they change their mind after the shoot to key the background? I have some tough clients, but damm. I agree, not much to do outside of frame-by-frame rotoscopting and then it won’t look perfect.

Actually, Apple’s included the old QT7 in the utilities folder. So, it’s the same as before if you need it. (QTPro still works too)

I would just start after the first 5 min. The rest is virgin tape and will be fine. I never reuse tape as to the possibility of drop outs. With the exception of the Sony HDCAM, tape is pretty cheap these days.
