Grey Bars appear over footage in Log and Capture
Posted by Brittany Oliphant on August 2, 2009 at 5:34 pmI have a tape that has grey bars through the footage. Is there a way to fix this? Or even a reason would be nice, so it doesn’t happen again.

August 2, 2009 at 5:41 pmThat doesn’t look good. Try cleaning the heads. Either it’s a bad recording, in which case there’s nothing you can do except reshoot, or the playback device has dirty heads and if you clean them you’ll be good to go.
All the best,

August 2, 2009 at 8:00 pmUPDATE: I used a mini dv head cleaner and NO CHANGE 🙁
I forgot to add that I’m not using a deck (unfortunately) I’m using my Canon ZR200 mini dv. I’m aware this runs down the camera and will eventually break it…could this have happened?

August 2, 2009 at 10:00 pmCould be the material is shot in DVCAM, which a Canon camera will not play back.

August 3, 2009 at 4:31 pmso….were the tapes shot with this camera? if not, what format were they shot in? do you have any other source to either send into the FCP, or to play the tapes on? do the tapes play back correctly in the camera? capture settings set correctly in FCP?
once you have checked and answered these questions, we could pinpoint what maybe going on.
