… you have also another choice using DVD shrink, maybe not the “purists’ choice”, but it’s easy and the results (depending on the size) are very good… just author your DVD (mpeg2 & AC3 audio) and use DVD shrink to “fit” the size to disc… If the compressing factor stays above 85% (sometimes you just need 90 or 95) nobody will complain about the final quality on your disc….

Vegas procedure (I use Vegas 9pro):

1 click “import – DVD”
2 edit clips in timeline
3 export (render) to any format you want

… one of the easiest methods without any issues at all….
and if you want alternatives to fast re-edit or modify DVD structure, keep menus, etc. (and without recompression) there are many solutions altough on the PC world (VideoRedo, DVDremakepro, etc.)

..I have an EX-3 and I’m very happy with the DVDs produced from my HD files with Vegas 9pro (PC) ….. I’ve read some posts about problems with DVDs from HD files and many “workarounds” and tips… not for me… my DVDs look gorgeous even better on LCD large TVs….

… a few thoughts (if it´s a real std. “complaint” DVD):
– try to play the DVD with a dedicated software (powerDVD or winDVD)..
– try import DVD with Vegas and see if you get audio…

…PCM or AC3 audio shouldn´t be a problem.. some (old) DVDs come with mpeg audio that sometimes WMP cannot play….

by the way, do you want the DVD files for editing ?

1- Open DVD Architect and put your theme or background on screen.
2- preview DVD
3- choose “best-production quality” on viewer
4- click the copy to clippboard button (5th on the upper-right corner)
5- Open photoshop and File – New
6- paste

…. done … you can export this image to any format (png, jpg, psd) for using on Vegas…

Thank you John… do I need to install Vegas 9pro 32bit with another OS (maybe XP)… or will it run in the same windows 7 environment with the 64 bit version ?

… this is something odd… I’m no software expert but the new Adobe 64bit programs doesn´t have “2 versions” to care about.. and they have thousands of external plugins…. anyway I love Vegas.. just a thought..
