I have made (rendered) a movie and I want to burn dvd. Ive been having a problem getting the file where I have space and kept getting error-no space, tonight found a default setting with a friend and this may have cured where the file prepares at.
The video is almost 1.5 hours long, but error comes up that the file is too big for media. Question: Is there a way to compress file so it fits on dvd. Been tinkering with a window that has fit to dvd and changeing stuff but no luck.

Not sure what kind of file you made, but if you want the DVD to play in a DVD player, the video has to be MPEG2. The only thing that controls filesize in MPEG2 is the bitrate. 1.5-hours of video should fit using a bitrate of 8Mbps.
You control the bitrate in Vegas by using the “DVD-A” preset in the MPEG compression options.
You can also let DVDA make the decisions for you by simply opening your AVI file in DVDA. DVDA will select the encoding parameters for you to make the video fit on a DVD.

You have two choices.
#1 is to render it as a DV-AVI and give that file to DVD Architect as it will do the conversion to MPEG-2 for you.
#2 (if you have Vegas Pro) is to encode (render) it using the following VBR settings for Max / Avg / Min:
7,904,000 / 6,320,000 / 3,792,000
This assumes AC-3 audio. -
… you have also another choice using DVD shrink, maybe not the “purists’ choice”, but it’s easy and the results (depending on the size) are very good… just author your DVD (mpeg2 & AC3 audio) and use DVD shrink to “fit” the size to disc… If the compressing factor stays above 85% (sometimes you just need 90 or 95) nobody will complain about the final quality on your disc….

Are you saying that you cant get the movie on the disk cause its too big or the software that your using to make the dvd wont import the rendered file. But, have you tried 8GB dvds? (if its that)
