OT: Someone sent me a DVD to watch. I dropped it in Windows Media Player, and I get no sound. I reformatted my machine not long ago, so maybe it needs a coded?

How can I find out what codec I should install? Or does anyone else have ideas on what might be the problem?

    Thanks.

… a few thoughts (if it´s a real std. “complaint” DVD):
    – try to play the DVD with a dedicated software (powerDVD or winDVD)..
    – try import DVD with Vegas and see if you get audio…

…PCM or AC3 audio shouldn´t be a problem.. some (old) DVDs come with mpeg audio that sometimes WMP cannot play….

by the way, do you want the DVD files for editing ?

    Hi Enrique.

Sorry for the long delay. Lots going on here.

Now that you mention it, I do remember having to install AC3 encoder before. I googled AC3 encoder, and got this link from SourceForge:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3encode/

I downloaded the file, but I am not sure what to do next. I opened it up, and there was a .dll file inside. What do I do next?

    Thanks.

…no need to install any AC3 encoder … if you have DVD architect or any of the players suggested (powerDVD, winDVD)you’ll have the audio codec… sorry I cannot help you with that procedure….

    good luck

If you don’t have DVD Architect on the computer, install either Media Player Classic or VLC media player (free tools) as both will play DVD files without the need for anything else.
