October 15, 2009 at 3:20 pm in reply to: When shooting for Vimeo HD is it best to do 720P…I usually shoot 1080 30p, you can “re-frame” your composition to 720p if you want (pan-crop) without degradation (or leave it 1080), and you also have the 1080 extra resolution for other projects….

What version of Vegas are you using ? … I´ve made 1280 x 720 mp4 renders with Vegas 8 and 9pro…. you can use either mainconcept AVC or Sony mp4 templates (with custom settings…)

OK… just found my solution….
1 – “rescue” mpegs and get AC3 from original DVD…and get rid of original menu….
2 – author a new DVD in DVD architect with full new menus & chapters…no need to add subtitles (the original VOBs have them)…
3 – checking resultant VOBs in DVDsubedit… the subtitles from the original VOBs are there !!..how to make it appear ???
4 – use PGCedit (incredible tool) to “switch on” the existent subtitles on my new DVD … it´s done !!! ..last step is just adjust colors on subtitles also with PGCedit….good luck !

as far as I know, Premiere Pro CS4 handles XDCAM-EX files natively (no need for mxf) using the media browser… I use Sony Vegas 9pro that can also reads the EX files with the device explorer without a problem…. you can also open mxf files coming from clip browser in Vegas and I guess is the same with premiere…
good luck

September 2, 2009 at 1:12 pm in reply to: help — i just bought a 15″ macbook pro with no express card slotI’m in PC land, but in the meantime, have you tried connecting your camera to your laptop with the USB cable as an alternate option ??
I have a pair of SHDC Sandisk / MxR combo and NEVER have problems…. when I use my 2 SxS cards (used for overcranking) I just connect the camera to my system by USB….
good luck
