Software needed to read MXF files

as far as I know, Premiere Pro CS4 handles XDCAM-EX files natively (no need for mxf) using the media browser… I use Sony Vegas 9pro that can also reads the EX files with the device explorer without a problem…. you can also open mxf files coming from clip browser in Vegas and I guess is the same with premiere…

Amberfin has a free utility that will deconvolve the Sony mxf into m2v video stream and aes audio files. The m2v files can then be read by most mpeg codecs. If you google AMBERFIN or MXF DESKTOP, you should be able to find this utility.

I’m using yours and i thing is really good. Makes gorgeous exteriors.
I’ve got the NANO a couple of weeks ago.
I haven’t had time to make any serious test, but no much need.
From the first shot the difference in noise and compression artifacts is noticeable.

Adobe actually handles XDcam MXF files more elegantly than FCP. No conversion is necessary.

Of course, EX (-1 and -3) cam files are not MXF…they’re MP4. (This is why FCP can load them through QT…FCP needs to convert MXF files) XDcam files written to optical disc are MXF wrapped.

Don’t ask me why this is…I wish some standard would establish itself as it’s a pain to have to concoct a new workflow for every new model of camera that hits the market…in this case you end up with two different workflows for what is technically the same video format (XDcam).

Ugh…

How did you do it? With a Plugin? I can do that and I have upgraded to Adobe PPro CS5.5.

What recorded video format by your Sony EX1? .MXF or .MP4?
