I-m upgrading to windows 7 64bit hoping to use Vegas 9pro 64 bit… is it true that almost no external plugins work with these version ….magic bullet, newblue, prodad…. can I open 32 bit projects with 64 bit version…. can I run both versions on the same machine….

any help would be greatly apreciated…

Less true than before but still a lot of pliug-ins don’t support 64-bit yet. The VASST script plug-ins, Excalibur, iZotope, & NewBlueFX are a few that that do work, not sure about the others (I don’t think Magic Bullet does).

    > can I open 32 bit projects with 64 bit version….

Yes, but none of the 32-bit plug-ins will load.

    > can I run both versions on the same machine….

Absolutely. There is no other way to use Vegas unless you only stick to the small subset of codecs and FX that are 64-bit enabled. I, for one, cannot.

Thank you John… do I need to install Vegas 9pro 32bit with another OS (maybe XP)… or will it run in the same windows 7 environment with the 64 bit version ?

… this is something odd… I’m no software expert but the new Adobe 64bit programs doesn´t have “2 versions” to care about.. and they have thousands of external plugins…. anyway I love Vegas.. just a thought..

    thanks again

Install it on the same Windows 7 64-bit environment. It will happily run in 32-bit mode. This is how I work everyday.

Which Adobe 64-bit programs are you referring to?

I have the latest Adobe Creative Suite 4 (CS4) and the only 64-bit program that ships with it is Photoshop CS4 64-bit and NONE of my Photoshop plug-ins work with it (just like Vegas) so I just use the 32-bit version instead. I’m curious what program you are referring to that has all of this 64-bit support?

…yes, John, youre absolutely right… my confusion with CS4 based on a 64bit white paper from Adobe…. premiere, after effects are optimized but only photoshop is native 64bit…. but as I said, I stay with vegas….

    thanks again…

Adobe doesn’t have much in the way of actual 64-bit programs. But, for the CS4 edition, they are fully 64-bit buzzphrase compatible:

“Gain up to 227% performance improvement when you use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on a 64-bit system with more memory.”

“Adobe Premiere® Pro CS4 software is architected and optimized for 64 bit operating systems.”

Most people would ASSUME that means this is a 64-bit application. It’s not. Apparently, they have just fixed some bugs working on 64-bit systems, and made the applications IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE flagged.

That’s not useless… an IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE 32-bit application on a 64-bit system can get twice as much RAM as a default 32-bit application on a 32-bit system. Not that they’re bending over backwards to clarify this.
