For High Definition (HD) you can try HDV, it will be less taxing on your hardware than most other HD formats.

I’m not sure that “doubling” will help, but if you want to try you can put the same mono clip on two mono tracks in PPro, then pan one hard left and the other hard right.

Hopefully someone with an audio engineering background will post an authoritative answer.

Unfortunately, untrue.

I believe there is a ProRes codec for the PC that will allow PPro to read but not encode Quicktime files using ProRes.

There are many codecs on the PC with no equivalent on the Mac.

Special care must be taken when working with both platforms.
